A swimming pool liner can accumulate scum from algae and other
debris from the environment such as bugs and leaves. A vinyl pool liner can
also become stained by certain factors. Fortunately, when an overgrowth of
algae stains and debris has got out of hand on your vinyl swimming pool liner
you can easily clean the mess.
You can clean
algae and scum off of a vinyl pool liner using old towels. A great deal of rain
and improper pH conditions can turn a swimming pool liner green and murky.
After algae has formed the scum on the pool liner is impossible to remove using
pool chemicals. Take some old, soft towels and get into the pool. Sink a towel
to the bottom and use your feet to drag it around the bottom of the pool.
Continue to drag the towel all over the bottom of the vinyl pool liner until
the algae scum is gone. Take another towel and scrub the walls of the pool
liner. Scrub underneath the pool ladder steps where the algae scum often forms.
Remove
stains by using vitamin C tablets. You can buy vitamin C tablets (ascorbic
acid) at swimming pool supply stores. Stains can occur on a swimming pool liner
from rust, minerals in the water and algae. After using towels to clean the
liner, take vitamin C tablets and rub them gently on any remaining stains.
Continue to rub the tablet on the stain for a few minutes until it is gone.
The
finishing touch of cleaning a vinyl swimming pool liner is using your pool
vacuum to suck up any other debris, such as bugs and dead leaves. Hook up your
pool vacuum and thoroughly clean your swimming pool liner. Sweep the floor and
then vacuum the vinyl liner walls. Suction all crevices where parts of the
liner are joined together. Follow up by using your normal pool maintenance
chemicals.
