Maintenance costs on a furnace

Heating accounts for 35% – 50% of energy costs in the average home. A high-efficiency gas furnace can reduce your overall energy use and help you save money. By reducing your energy consumption, efficient home heating systems also reduce pollution and protect the earth from the effects of global warming.

There are two types of service you can get on your furnace. The first service include vacuuming up the dust bunnies, changing the $1.99 filter, oiling the motor belt, checking for loose connections and checking to see if the heat exchanger is cracked. A professional will do this service for around $40 or if you have the knowledge you could do it yourself for less than $20 including a really good filter.

The second service involves doing vacuuming up the dust bunnies, changing the $1.99 filter, oiling the motor belt, checking for loose connections and checking to see if the heat exchanger is cracked plus checking the gas pressure, gas valve operation while calibrating the burn rate, checking the flue temperature, measuring the heating duct temperatures and temperature drop and verifying the heat exchanger isn't cracked. This service costs about $100 by a professional. They will suggest you get this service done yearly and every 2-5 years as a bare minimum.
